This trip was scheduled for Wed but when I saw the weather, I called to see if they could go tues and the crew was eager to accomodate. We headed offshore and started high speed trolling for wahoo. We tried that about and hour and switched to skirted ballyhoo. Within 5 minutes of trolling ballyhoo, we had a knockdown. Fish started screaming line off the reel and after about 20 minutes, Dusty got him boat side and we realized it was a Mako Shark! Are you kidding me?!!? A Mako?!!? Well just when I thought things couldn't go any better, another rod goes off and Cindy grabs it. Turns out to be an olympic battle, but eventually Cindy came out on top with her first ever wahoo! She sustained minimal damage during the battle and ended with her trophy of between 35-40lbs. After that we bottom fished and caught fish on almost every drop for a few hours. We caught triggerfish, red porgies, vermillion snapper, almaco jacks and another first: we got 4 Silk Snapper. What a beautiful fish! We also had a majestic visit from a huge loggerhead sea turtle. He just came up to the back of the boat and just floated there like he was trying to tell us something. What a great moment to be 65 miles offshore and be able to look into the eyes of one of God's creatures and wonder if you were the only human this creature has everdone that with, or where he's been the weeks before then. It was pretty incredible. Today was a day to remember for sure. That's guys for such a great trip. I really enjoyed having ya'll!!
