Well 3 days after the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council voted 7-6 in favor of implementing a 6 month closure on red snapper based on information they received about the snapper population being overfished, and they say that we don't have any red snapper in the South Atlantic, I took a 4 man crew out and we got our limit! It must be because there are no snapper! We had 10 red snapper up to 10lbs, lost several nice fish and threw back several undersized ones. The guys also had 16 beeliners up to 3lbs, a couple sea bass, and a ringtail porgy. Please make sure you contact your state representatives and congressmen and voice your opinion that there is no need to close down red snapper harvest and that we aren't going to stand for this example of the government bullying us around. Please don't expect that someone else will do it. We need 100% participation to make a point; otherwise they will close red snapper harvest down completely for 6 months with an additional 6 month option. If they can prove to the government that the original 6 months is needed, how hard do you think it will be to talk them into the extention? That's at least 1 year we can't catch red snapper. As my grand dad used to say, "That dog just won't hunt!" Now get to typing so we can keep our rods bent!! If you don't know how to find information on emailing Congressmen or State Representatives, go to www.keepoceanfishing.com If that doesn't work email me.
