Man the day started out rough with winds from the west at 15-20. It stayed that way until about 1pm. I decided to take some time to look for pogies along the beach. This was a two-fold plan. The main plan was to use them for cobia and second reason was to kill a little time and allow the winds to back off some before we went offshore. Well we found the pogies after about an hour and filled the livewell with one throw. We headed offshore to some close wrecks hoping to find some cobia and continue to wait for the seas to lay down before going further out. The winds didn't seem like they were going anywhere soon so we stayed in close and tried to make the best of it. Let me tell you, we didn't put many fish on the dock today but everyone got a lesson on how to handle or not handle big fish. We broke off numerous big fish today as a result of letting them get the upper hand at the beginning of the fight and breaking the line in the wreck. We hooked a couple sharks in the 100lb range, to only get one to the boat before it broke the line. The crew had steady action but we just could never put the quality fish in the boat; they all got back into the wreck and snapped the line before we could get them out. Nice job guys!!
