The SW winds at 15-20 kept me from carrying out my plan to go way out looking for snapper. I explained this to the crew at the dock and said we could go down the beach and hopefully play with some kingfish, possibly a cobia, and maybe jump a tarpon. They decided a day on the water was in store so they were open to try it. We headed down the beach and loaded up on pogies without even throwing the net! Thanks JJ!! We left there and trolled the red tops for about an hour. We did get 1 bite (not sure what it was) but we didn't catch anything. There was a contender fishing beside us that jumped a tarpon so we got to see it make a few jumps behind their boat. We left there and headed out to JW where we finally got into some action. We ended the day with 6 kingfish, 2 sharks, and pulled the hooks on 6-7 more fish. Turned out to be a pretty day on the water for as far as we went out. Turns out we made the right decision to stay close and troll. From the reports on the radio, the bottom fishing close in wasn't going very well and it was too rough to go further out for the smaller boats. It was great to meet the crew and I had a great time entertaining them. Thank you for "going for it" guys! Until next time, keep those rods bent!!
